The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations started today under the Chattogram Education Board. A total of 130,724 students are taking part this year across the region.

Board data shows that 56,351 candidates are male and 74,373 are female. The exams are being held at 218 centres in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and the three hill districts.

Among the candidates, 34,991 are from the science group, 43,983 from the humanities group, and 51,750 from the business studies group. A total of 1,218 schools have students sitting for the exams this year.

In terms of location, 92,338 candidates are from Chattogram metropolitan and district areas. Cox’s Bazar has 18,924 candidates. The hill districts include 7,417 from Rangamati, 8,071 from Khagrachhari, and 3,874 from Bandarban.

To ensure a fair exam process, the education board has formed 76 vigilance teams. Of these, 66 are general teams and 10 are special teams assigned for field monitoring. Officials said all preparations are complete to hold the exams in a peaceful and cheating-free environment.

Security has also been tightened around exam centres. Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali said special measures are in place at every centre in the city.

A public notice from police bans weapons, explosives, and similar items within 200 yards of each centre. This rule applies from one hour before the exam starts until one hour after it ends. The notice also restricts gatherings, rallies, slogans, music, and the use of microphones or loudspeakers.

Authorities have ordered nearby photocopy shops to remain closed during exam hours. Only authorised persons will be allowed inside the centre areas.

Officials said monitoring will continue throughout the exam period to maintain discipline and safety.
