Govt tightens control on social media during SSC exams

Govt tightens control on social media

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education has ordered stronger monitoring of social media during the ongoing SSC and equivalent examinations. The instruction came through an official letter issued on Thursday, 30 April.

The letter said the 2026 SSC exams have been running across the country since 21 April. During this period, authorities have noticed attempts to spread rumours about question leaks on platforms such as Facebook.

Officials said these claims are misleading and can create confusion among students and parents. To address this, institutions have been told to form cyber monitoring cells. These teams will track false information and online propaganda related to public exams.

The directive also calls for quick action against those spreading such rumours. Law enforcement agencies, including the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, will assist in investigations. Authorities may file legal cases if necessary.

The move follows an earlier instruction from the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education. That letter urged strict steps to maintain exam integrity.

Public exam security remains a key concern in Bangladesh. False claims about question leaks can harm trust in the system and affect students’ mental well-being.

Officials said monitoring will continue throughout the exam period. Further action will be taken based on findings from the cyber teams and law enforcement agencies.
