The National University has announced new rules for grade improvement in the 2025 Honours first-year examination. The notice was signed by the Controller of Examinations, Md. Enamul Karim was issued on Monday.
The university said students who sat for the 2024 Honours first-year exam and moved to the second year can apply for grade improvement. This applies to both regular and irregular candidates. However, they can only retake courses where they received ‘C’, ‘C plus’, or ‘D’ grades. Each student can choose a maximum of two courses.
The notice also covers students from the 2018–19 to 2023–24 sessions. Those who passed to the second year but have ‘F’ grades can sit for the 2025 exam. They can only retake the courses where they failed.
The university has set a clear limit for improved results. Students will not receive more than an ‘A minus’ in any grade improvement exam. This rule will apply in all cases, regardless of performance.
The notice also makes some requirements mandatory. Students must retake all courses where they received an ‘F’ grade. They must improve those grades to at least a ‘D’ within the valid registration period. If they fail to do so, the university will not consider them to have finally passed.
Another rule applies to students who were absent in some exams. Those who passed with a ‘C’ grade in 2024 must sit for the 2025 exam in any course where they were absent.
The university has also confirmed that grade improvement is not allowed for practical exams.
