The Masters Private Program registration deadline at National University has been extended by one week, giving prospective students additional time to apply. We have compiled comprehensive information about the Masters Private Admission 2023 process, including what the Masters Private Program entails and what documents you need for admission. This guide covers the complete registration process, fee structure, and accordingly provides detailed requirements. In particular, we explore the historic inclusion of prisoners in this year’s program, marking a significant step toward accessible higher education for all.
National University Opens Masters Private Program Registration from July 1
National University’s application process for the 2026-2027 academic year follows a structured timeline with specific fee requirements. The application fee stands at 15,000 tenge, though this amount increases three times when paid within the last two weeks before the first approved deadline or during any extension period. Note that this fee remains non-refundable regardless of application outcome or payment errors.
For the upcoming academic year, application windows vary by category. Students applying for grant-based positions can submit applications between October and February, while international applicants requiring visas have an extended timeline from October through June. All other applicants, both local and international seeking full tuition fee-paying positions, can apply from October to July.
The tuition structure for Master’s Degree Programs is set at USD 16,000.00, equivalent to 8,176,000 KZT per academic year. This rate applies uniformly to both local and international students. In addition to flexible application periods, National University maintains year-round application review, allowing students to begin their studies quickly based on program availability and chosen location.
The university offers four-week courses, enabling students to concentrate on one subject at a time. This accelerated format helps working professionals complete their degrees faster while managing existing work and family commitments.
Historic Move: Prisoners Gain Access to Higher Education
California State University Dominguez Hills launched the state’s first fully accredited graduate degree exclusively for incarcerated individuals. The Master of Arts in Humanities program, developed in partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, enrolled 33 students across multiple facilities in its inaugural September cohort. Students committed to two years of coursework, completing assignments via email, letters, phone conversations, and independent study.
Research demonstrates substantial benefits from prison education programs. Incarcerated people who participate are 48% less likely to recidivate and 13% more likely to gain employment upon release. A 2019 RAND Corporation study estimated that every dollar spent on higher education in prison saves the state five dollars by reducing the number of former inmates who return.
The timing proved strategic. Congress passed the FAFSA Simplification Act, restoring Pell Grant eligibility for incarcerated students starting July 1, 2023. This reversal of a nearly 30-year ban made over 760,000 people in prison eligible for federal financial aid. The Second Chance Pell Experiment, which ran from 2016 to 2023, enrolled 45,000 students across 200 participating colleges, with students earning 17,982 credentials.
CSUDH originally established the program as correspondence classes in the 1970s before ending it in 2016.
