Social media influencer and TikToker Alina Amir has appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to act against those behind an alleged deepfake video circulated online. In a video statement posted on Instagram on Sunday, Alina said she decided to speak after a week of silence. She said misleading posts began spreading online, claiming that an explicit video of her had been leaked. She denied the claims and said the video was fake.
The Alina Amir Viral Video in question is about four minutes and forty seconds long. It spread quickly across social media platforms, along with messages and links promising access to an “original MMS.” Alina Amir said these claims were false and harmful.
“I sincerely request Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz sahiba to take action against all these culprits who create videos of women to malign them and ruin their lives,” Alina said in her appeal. She called for strict punishment for those involved in creating and sharing such content.
Alina Amir also praised the Punjab Cyber Crime Department for its efforts. She urged authorities to treat the matter seriously and to protect women from digital harassment. She described the creation and spread of fake videos as a form of abuse.
According to Alina, the harm caused by deepfake videos goes beyond public figures. She said ordinary women also face similar attacks. In many cases, perpetrators send fake content directly to victims’ families. This causes severe emotional distress and long-term damage, she said.
Alina said she stayed silent at first, hoping the false claims would stop. However, she decided to respond when the posts continued to spread. She urged social media users to verify information before sharing it.
The influencer also announced a cash reward for anyone who provides credible information about the person behind the fake video. She encouraged women to speak up against such abuses. She said staying silent often allows the problem to grow.
The incident has also drawn attention to the wider risks linked to viral “MMS” claims online. Cyber experts and police often warn that such links are commonly used for scams. Many links promising access to viral videos lead users to unsafe websites.
In several cases, clicking on these links can result in malware infections. Scammers may steal personal data, gain access to social media accounts, or empty bank accounts. Users often lose money while searching for videos that do not exist.
Experts advise people to avoid clicking on suspicious links. Blurry thumbnails, urgent language, and clickbait headlines are common warning signs. Typos in web addresses, strange domains, and requests to log in or download files should raise concern.
Deepfake technology has made online harassment more serious. Scammers need only a few images to create convincing fake videos. These videos are often used to shame, blackmail, or silence women. While public figures like Alina Amir can speak out, many victims lack a platform.
Authorities have also warned that creating or sharing deepfake videos is a punishable offence. Publishing or forwarding such content can lead to legal action, including jail terms. Police continue to advise the public to report fake content instead of spreading it.
The case has sparked discussion across Pakistan and neighbouring countries, including India and Bangladesh, where similar scams have appeared. Cybercrime units in the region have repeatedly asked users to stay alert and act responsibly online.
