Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) will not start its undergraduate admission process before the national parliamentary election, university authorities said.
The admission test results for the 2025-2026 first-year session were published on the night of January 28, but the admission schedule has not yet been fixed.
In a message to be published on the official university website, BUET said its admission activities will begin as soon as possible after the national election is over.
The university added that the detailed admission schedule will be announced later. Admission seekers can view their BUET Admission results on the admission website, according to the authorities.
The BUET admission test was held on January 10 in two shifts, the university said earlier. BUET reported that 87.44 per cent of applicants took part in the admission test.
According to a BUET press release, 10,351 students were selected through initial screening and were allowed to sit for the admission test. Among the selected candidates, 7,644 were male students, and 2,707 were female students, the press release said.
Out of the selected candidates, 9,051 students finally appeared in the admission test. Students will be admitted to undergraduate programmes in 13 departments under five faculties.
These faculties are Chemical and Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Architecture and Planning.
This year, BUET will admit students against a total of 1,309 seats, the university said. The seat number includes reserved places for specific groups. There are three reserved seats for candidates from indigenous ethnic groups of the Chittagong Hill Tracts and other areas.
However, no more than one reserved seat will be available in any single department for these candidates in the engineering departments and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. There is also one reserved seat for the Department of Architecture, according to BUET.
The admission process at BUET is closely watched by students and families across Bangladesh because it is one of the country’s most competitive public universities. Many candidates wait for the BUET timeline to plan their applications to other public universities.
The university has not provided any specific date for when the election will end or when the admission process will begin. BUET authorities said the next step will be the publication of the full admission schedule after the national election is completed.
