All examinations of Dhaka University (DU) and its affiliated colleges that were scheduled for Saturday, December 20, have been postponed.
The decision was taken after the government announced a one-day state mourning. The mourning was declared following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, a former Dhaka University student and a key figure of the July mass uprising.
The university shared this update through an emergency notice on Friday evening (December 19). As a result, students will not need to attend any exams tomorrow.
Official Emergency Notice from Dhaka University
Dr. Himadri Shekhar Chakraborty, Acting Controller of Examinations of Dhaka University, signed the emergency notice. The notice clearly stated that no exams will be held at Dhaka University on Saturday.
According to the notice:
“To observe the one-day state mourning following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, no examinations will take place on Saturday at Dhaka University, its affiliated colleges, and constituent institutes.”
This means the decision applies to:
- DU main campus exam centers
- Affiliated colleges
- Constituent institutes under Dhaka University
Who Was Sharif Osman Hadi?
Sharif Osman Hadi was a former student of Dhaka University. He played an important role as a frontline fighter in the July mass uprising. He was also the convener of the Inqilab Mancha, a platform linked with the movement. His sudden death has led to nationwide mourning.
Dhaka University authorities said the exam postponement is a mark of respect and honor to him and all the martyrs of the July movement.
DU Science Unit Admission Test Postponed
Along with regular exams, the Science Unit admission test of Dhaka University has also been postponed. The test was planned for Saturday, December 20, for students seeking admission to first-year undergraduate programs for the 2025–26 academic session.
The confirmation came earlier on Friday through a press release from the university’s Public Relations Office.
“To honor the memory of Sharif Osman Hadi and all July fighters and martyrs, the Science Unit admission test scheduled for December 20 has been postponed.”
This postponement applies only to Saturday, December 20. Other exams will continue as planned unless further notices are issued. Students are strongly advised not to believe rumors shared on social media. Always rely on official DU announcements.
Dhaka University has taken this step to respect the national mourning period. Further updates will be shared as soon as decisions are finalized.
