BNP lawmaker ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon is likely to be appointed education minister in the new government. He was newly elected from Chandpur-1. Milon reportedly received a call earlier on 17 February about the appointment.
Earlier in the day, newly elected members of parliament took the oath. This marked the start of the new parliamentary term. After the ceremony, several lawmakers received calls from the Cabinet Division regarding their appointments as ministers and state ministers.
The swearing-in ceremony of the prime minister, ministers and state ministers is scheduled to be held at 4 pm today.
Milon previously served as state minister for education from 2001 to 2006. He held the post during the BNP-led government at that time. During his tenure, he was known for taking strict steps against cheating in public examinations.
He strengthened oversight of examination centres across the country. He visited multiple centres under different education boards. At times, he travelled by helicopter to conduct inspections.
His possible return to the education ministry comes at a time when public examinations and education management remain key national issues. Many students and parents closely follow decisions related to exam integrity and administration.
If appointed, Milon will formally take the oath at the ceremony scheduled this afternoon. The Cabinet Division is expected to confirm the final list of ministers during the swearing-in event.
