Gono Vote Results: EC Published Correction Data

Revised figures show lower and corrected turnout after technical errors in initial release

The has corrected several errors in the published results of the Gono Vote held on 12 February. The commission said technical problems caused inconsistencies in the first release.

The referendum was organised on the question of implementing the July Charter. Preliminary results showed that about 62.47 percent of voters cast ballots in favour of “Yes”, while 29.32 percent voted “No”. The “Yes” side won in most constituencies. However, the “No” vote secured victory in 11 constituencies.

Questions arose after unusually high turnout figures appeared in some areas.

In Rajshahi-4, the initial data showed a turnout of 244.295 percent. The total number of voters in the constituency is 319,909. However, the number of cast votes was published as 781,523. Of those votes, 612,229 were listed as “No” and 145,382 as “Yes”.

After criticism, the EC released revised data. It corrected the turnout in Rajshahi-4 to 72.59 percent. The total number of votes cast there was updated to 206,611.

Rajshahi-4 is represented in parliament by Abdul Bari Sardar of .

A similar inconsistency appeared in Sirajganj-1. The first release showed a turnout of only 7.899 percent in the referendum. On the same day, the national parliamentary election in that constituency recorded a turnout of 60.83 percent. The large gap drew attention from observers.

Nationwide, the initial report stated that 48,074,429 voters supported “Yes” and 22,565,627 supported “No”. The average turnout across 299 parliamentary constituencies was published as 60.26 percent.

In the revised results, the number of “Yes” votes was adjusted to 48,006,60, while “No” votes were set at 22,071,726. The average turnout was updated to 60.84 percent.

The EC said the mistakes occurred due to technical errors in displaying information. It said officials verified the data and corrected the figures.

The corrections are significant because voter turnout and vote totals are central to public trust in the electoral process. Accurate reporting of the Gono Vote Result is also important for political parties and citizens who took part in the referendum.

The commission has not announced any further changes. It said the published revised figures now reflect the verified results of the 12 February vote.
