Govt Publishes Primary School Stipend Guidelines, Monthly Amounts Set by Class

The Directorate of Primary Education has published new implementation guidelines for the primary education stipend programme in Bangladesh. The guidelines were released on Thursday (5 March 2026) on the department’s official website.

According to the document, all students in government primary schools will be included in the stipend programme. The benefit also applies to students in PTI-affiliated experimental schools and schools run by the Shishu Kallyan Trust.

The stipend is designed to help families cover basic education costs. The money can be used to buy items such as school bags, umbrellas, uniforms, shoes, and tiffin boxes. The programme operates under the government’s National Social Security Strategy.

The guidelines set different monthly amounts depending on the student’s class level.

A pre-primary student will receive 75 taka each month. For classes one to five, a family with one student will receive 150 taka monthly. If two students from the same family study in these classes, the stipend will be 300 taka per month.

In government primary schools, the amount is slightly higher for classes six to eight. A family with one student will receive 200 taka each month. If two students study in these grades, the stipend will be 400 taka per month.

The programme limits the benefit to a maximum of two students from the same family. The government may adjust the stipend amount later if needed.

Students must meet several conditions to receive the payment. Pre-primary students must be at least four years old and attend at least 80 percent of monthly classes. Students in grade one must also maintain 80 percent attendance.

From grades two to eight, students must maintain 80 per cent attendance and score at least 40 per cent marks in each subject in the previous year’s final exam. For students with special needs, the required mark is 33 per cent in each subject.

Each student must have an online birth registration certificate. The guardian must also have an active mobile financial service account linked to their national identity card.

The stipend may be stopped if a student fails exams or remains absent for three consecutive months. Payments may restart once the student meets the conditions again.
