Meta to Shut down Messenger Website in April, Not Messenger App

Meta has officially announced that Messenger.com will stop working for messaging from April 2026. Users who visit the site after that date will be redirected to facebook.com/messages.

The Messenger desktop app is also no longer available. Users must now use Facebook Messages on a web browser or the Messenger mobile app to continue chatting.

According to the official update, all conversations will remain accessible. When Messenger.com goes offline, users will automatically move to facebook.com/messages on their computers. They can continue existing chats without losing message history.

People who use Messenger without a Facebook account can still use the Messenger mobile app. Their conversations will remain available there.

Meta has also confirmed that users can restore chat history on any platform using their PIN. This applies to both web and mobile devices.

The change affects users in the USA, UK, Bangladesh, India, and other countries where Messenger is widely used for personal and business communication. Many small businesses rely on Messenger to connect with customers. They will now need to manage conversations through Facebook’s main website or the mobile app.

The update simplifies access by bringing messaging services under one web address. However, users who prefer messenger.com may need time to adjust.

Meta has not announced further changes to the Messenger mobile app. From April 2026, web-based messaging will operate only through facebook.com/messages.
