The recruitment exam for heads and assistant heads of private educational institutions in Bangladesh is likely to be held on April 17 and 18.
The Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) has proposed these dates for the nationwide test.
NTRCA Chairman Aminul Islam confirmed the information to the media on Friday, February 27. He said an official office order will be issued soon.
This is the first time NTRCA is conducting recruitment exams for the posts of head and assistant head. The process has started under the direction of the Ministry of Education. More than 80,000 candidates applied between February 3 and 26. They are competing for over 10,000 vacant posts across the country.
According to NTRCA sources, the highest number of applications was submitted for the post of assistant head teacher at secondary schools. The nationwide vacancy list shows 10,278 posts under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education. These include principals, vice-principals and head teachers.
There are also 3,131 vacant posts under the Directorate of Madrasah Education and 150 posts under the Directorate of Technical Education.
Examination Method and Mark Distribution
According to the NTRCA notice, candidates will sit for an 80-mark written exam in multiple-choice question (MCQ) format. The test will last one hour and include 80 questions.
Each correct answer will carry one mark. For each wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted. Candidates must score at least 40 per cent marks separately in each section to pass the written test.
After the written exam, candidates will take an 8-mark viva, or oral test. Another 12 marks will be given based on academic qualification certificates.

NTRCA has been conducting teacher registration since 2005. It has recommended teachers for entry-level posts since 2016. However, this is the first time it is handling recruitment for heads of institutions.
The Ministry of Education assigned this responsibility to NTRCA through a circular issued on January 27. Authorities said the current manpower structure and MPO policy will be followed during recruitment.
The official notice with confirmed exam dates is expected to be published soon.
