Rajshahi University has moved up to 6th place in Bangladesh in the Scimago Institution Ranking 2026. The ranking was published by the Spain-based Scimago Institution. Last year, the university was ranked 8th in the country.
A total of 10,827 universities from around the world were included in this year’s ranking. Among them, 47 public and private universities from Bangladesh secured positions.
According to the published data, Rajshahi University ranked 11th in research, 4th in social impact, and 24th in innovation within Bangladesh. When these three indicators were combined, the university achieved 6th place overall in the country.
In 2025, the university’s positions were 11th in research, 4th in social impact, and 26th in innovation. This shows that it improved its position in innovation this year.
Scimago prepares the ranking based on three main indicators: research, innovation, and social impact. For the overall score, research carries 50% weight, innovation 30%, and social impact 20%.
Rajshahi University’s position has changed over the past several years. It ranked 13th in 2024 and 17th in 2023. In 2022 and 2021, it held 12th place. Earlier, it ranked 6th in 2020, 5th in 2019, and 4th in 2018. The latest result continues its recent upward trend.

According to the 2026 ranking, the top ten universities in Bangladesh are BGC Trust University Bangladesh, Sylhet Agricultural University, University of Dhaka, Islamic University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, University of Chittagong, Rajshahi University, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, and BRAC University.
