Schools to Reopen After Eid Break, Extra Classes Under Review

Educational institutions across Bangladesh will reopen next Sunday after the extended Eid holiday. Classes remain closed this week as Friday and Saturday fall within the vacation period.

Government and private offices reopened on Tuesday after the Eid break ended. However, schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical institutes are still on holiday. The long closure has raised concerns about possible learning gaps among students.

Officials at the Ministry of Education said they are reviewing possible steps. One option under discussion is arranging extra classes to recover lost lessons.

A senior official from the Secondary and Higher Education Division confirmed the issue on Tuesday. The official said the academic calendar planned classes until the 15th of Ramadan. However, institutions stayed closed for the full month after protests from teachers.

Teachers had earlier objected to differences in holiday schedules between institutions. Madrasas were given a full Ramadan break from the start. Secondary school teachers demanded equal treatment for their institutions.

After the protests, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon announced a full Ramadan holiday for secondary schools. He also said the ministry would consider ways to cover the academic loss.

An education ministry official told The Daily Campus that no final decision has been made. The official said options include adjusting the academic calendar or adding extra classes.

Sources said the minister may give an update within the next few days. A decision is expected either later this week or early next week.

Students and teachers now await clear guidance as regular classes prepare to resume.
