Schools to reopen Sunday after Ramadan–Eid holiday break

Educational institutions across Bangladesh will reopen on Sunday, March 29, after the long Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. The break covered schools from primary to higher secondary level. It also included most public and private universities.

According to the revised annual holiday schedule, the closure began on February 19. The holiday period will officially end on March 26. However, March 27 and March 28 fall on weekly holidays. As a result, regular classes will restart on Sunday.

The updated holiday list confirmed that institutions would remain closed throughout Ramadan and Eid. Authorities said the schedule was adjusted to match the academic calendar.

Earlier, on March 8, the government decided to close all public and private universities. The decision aimed to reduce electricity and fuel use during the ongoing war in the Middle East. The move followed a directive from Prime Minister Tarek Rahman.

Under this decision, universities began their Eid break from March 9. The early closure was intended to support energy conservation efforts.

Most higher education institutions, including Dhaka University, will also reopen on March 29. In a notice issued on March 9, the university said all classes and exams would stay suspended until March 28.

The notice said the decision followed instructions from the Ministry of Education. It also confirmed that academic activities would restart after the holidays end.

The reopening will allow students and teachers to return to regular academic schedules from next week.
