Some colleges in Dhaka will begin online classes from Sunday, April 12, as part of a flexible teaching plan during the current energy situation.
The decision comes as schools remain closed on the same day due to the Baisabi Festival. Officials said only college section students will join online classes on Sunday.
Sources from the Ministry of Education said no institution is required to run online classes. Authorities have allowed capable institutions to start them on their own. The ministry will offer support if needed.
Earlier, Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon announced a blended system for selected institutions. Under this plan, classes will run online for three days and in person for three days each week. The system will begin with a limited number of institutions in Dhaka.
Institutions mentioned include Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Residential Model School and College, and RAJUK Uttara Model College, along with a madrasa in Gazipur.
As of Saturday night, only Viqarunnisa Noon School and College confirmed the start of online classes for its college section. The institution issued two notices on the matter.

According to a notice signed by acting principal Majeda Begum, classes will follow a mixed schedule from April 12. In-person classes will take place on Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday. Online classes will be held on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Teachers will share class links and routines with students through class groups.
A second notice said the Class XII first paper selection exam has been postponed due to the change. The exam will now take place on April 13 at the original time.
Officials say the system may expand to more institutions if it proves effective in the coming weeks.
