    Festival Allowance for MPO Teachers

The Ministry of Education has taken steps to raise the festival allowance for MPO-listed teachers and employees to 60 percent. The move would increase the allowance by 10 percent. Officials confirmed the development on Wednesday, March 4.

A source from the Secondary and Higher Education Division said the ministry has asked the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) to send a detailed proposal. The proposal will help calculate the total funds needed for the increase.

If approved, the new rate may require an additional Tk 200 to 250 crore. Officials said the final amount will depend on data provided by the directorates. After review, the proposal will be sent to the Ministry of Finance for approval.

An official of the Ministry of Education, speaking to News ARN on condition of anonymity, said efforts are underway to implement the increase before the upcoming Eid al-Fitr. “We have asked the directorates to send their proposals quickly. Once we receive them, we will begin the approval process,” the official said.

At present, MPO-listed teachers receive 50 percent of their basic salary as a festival allowance. Employees receive the same rate. Earlier, teachers received 25 percent, while employees received 50 percent.

Last year, the allowance for teachers was raised from 25 percent to 50 percent. The increase followed a movement by the MPO-listed Education Nationalization Expectant Alliance.

If the latest proposal is approved, both teachers and employees will receive 60 percent of their basic salary as a festival allowance. The Ministry of Education will take further steps after reviewing the financial proposal from the directorates.
