Class XI admissions are likely to be conducted based on SSC examination results this year, continuing the system used in previous years, according to education board sources.
The Inter-Education Board College Inspectors Coordination Committee has decided to recommend maintaining the GPA-based admission process. A proposal on the matter is expected to be submitted to the Ministry of Education within this week for final consideration.
The decision was discussed at a meeting held on Sunday at the Dhaka Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education. College inspectors from the country’s nine education boards attended the meeting, along with a representative from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
According to sources present at the meeting, inspectors supported keeping the existing admission system. Under this method, students are admitted to Class XI based on their SSC or equivalent examination results, without sitting for an additional admission test.
A college inspector who attended the meeting told the media on condition of anonymity that inspectors are not in favour of introducing an admission examination.

“The inspectors want the same system that was used last year. Students were admitted based on GPA, and we believe that system should continue. We will soon send our recommendation to the Ministry of Education,” the official said.
The inspector added that introducing a new admission method could create challenges for students and institutions. Organising admission tests would also require additional time, costs, and administrative arrangements.
“Considering these issues, we have decided to recommend admissions based solely on GPA under the existing system,” the official said.
The Ministry of Education will make the final decision after reviewing the proposal.
Under the most recent Class XI Admission Policy, admissions were conducted without any selection or admission test. Students were selected based on SSC or equivalent examination results.
According to the policy, 93 percent of seats remain open to all applicants and are filled through merit-based selection. The remaining 7 percent are reserved under special quotas, including 2 percent for the children of officers and employees and 5 percent for the children of freedom fighters.
Bangladesh has followed a GPA-based admission system for Class XI for many years. However, a small number of institutions have continued to use separate admission procedures, including written tests.
Among the institutions known for conducting their own admission tests are Notre Dame College, Holy Cross College, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, and St. Gregory High School and College.
