A candidate was detained during the GST ‘A’ Unit admission test at Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) on Friday. Officials said he tried to match exam answers using ChatGPT on a mobile phone.
The incident occurred around 11:00 AM during the admission test session on April 10. The exam is part of the integrated cluster system for the 2025–2026 academic year.
The detained candidate was identified as Md. Imon, roll number 152349. He is a resident of Puthia Police Station in Rajshahi district.
According to the university’s examination control office, the test started at 11:00 AM. A teacher on duty later noticed the student behaving in an unusual manner.

During questioning, the student admitted bringing the phone into the exam hall. He said he tried to take pictures and match answers using ChatGPT.
The student told officials he could not complete the attempt during the exam. He also admitted that bringing the phone was an offence and asked for forgiveness.
PUST Proctor Kamruzzaman Khan confirmed the action taken by the university administration. He said the teacher on duty detected the unusual activity during the examination.
The authorities confiscated the mobile phone and detained the candidate immediately. The student was later expelled from the ongoing admission test.
The GST admission process began earlier with the ‘C’ Unit test on March 27. Results for that exam were published on March 29.
The ‘B’ Unit admission test was held on April 3. Authorities released those results on April 6 as part of the ongoing admission schedule.
