Rajshahi University has launched high-speed free 5G Wi-Fi at selected campus locations. The service began on Wednesday, April 15, according to an official press release.
The release was signed by Professor Dr. Akhtar Hossain Majumder from the Public Relations Office. It said the first phase covers the souvenir shop area in the transport market and the central cafeteria.
The network appears as “RU WiFi 5G” on supported devices. Users can access it on smartphones, tablets, or laptops that support 5G Wi-Fi. Students, teachers, officers, and staff can use the service at any time. They need valid university internet IDs and passwords to log in.
The university said the service will expand to more important campus areas in phases. Authorities aim to ensure fast and reliable internet access for academic and daily use.

This move follows a recent directive from the University Grants Commission. On March 25, the UGC asked all universities to provide free and high-speed Wi-Fi. The plan includes libraries, common rooms, and cafeterias within 60 working days.
The UGC also said the service will later reach residential halls and research facilities.
The new service is expected to support learning, research, and communication for students and staff. University officials said further expansion work will continue in the coming weeks.
