National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A S M Amanullah expelled 10 students for cheating during a visit to an examination centre in Mymensingh on Thursday. The action took place on the first day of the Honours 4th Year Exam 2026.
Dr Amanullah inspected several centres and expressed strong dissatisfaction with exam management. He said poor supervision makes examinations meaningless. “If exams are not managed properly, then taking them is only a formality,” he told journalists.
The vice-chancellor said that unfair practices cannot stop without better discipline among teachers and officials. He stressed the need for “moral improvement” among those responsible for running exam centres. According to him, quality education depends on fair and strict examination systems.
During the visit, officials identified students using unfair means. They were expelled on the spot. Authorities did not provide further details about the methods used.
Dr Amanullah also said the university will take strict measures to improve exam management. These steps aim to ensure fairness and maintain academic standards across all centres.
Earlier in the day, he inaugurated the National University’s regional centre in Mymensingh.
The issue of cheating has drawn attention in recent weeks. On the first day of this year’s SSC exams, Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon also caught cheating during centre visits, sparking public discussion.
University officials say monitoring will continue throughout the examination period.
