Two people, including a school head teacher, were arrested in Jashore over allegations of tampering with an SSC examination answer script, police said on Saturday.

The arrested are Shahanara Khatun, head teacher of Bagachra Combined Girls School and College in Sharsa upazila, and school employee Fatema Khatun.

According to local sources, Shahanara’s daughter, Ahona Khatun, is an SSC candidate from Kulbariya BKS Secondary School in Jhikargacha upazila. She sat for this year’s SSC examination at Bagachra Combined Girls School and College centre.

The incident allegedly took place on April 28 after the English Second Paper examination ended. Authorities said Shahanara secretly collected her daughter’s answer script from room 301 of the exam centre.

Police and local administration officials said the answer script was later corrected with help from employee Fatema Khatun before it was resubmitted.

After receiving information about the matter, Sharsa Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fazle Wahid and Upazila Academic Supervisor A.K.M. Nuruzzaman carried out an on-site investigation.

Sharsa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Maruf Hossain said a case was filed against the accused under the Public Examinations Act, 1980, on Friday night.

He said the two accused were produced before the court on Saturday morning.

The case has raised concerns over exam security and fairness during the ongoing SSC examinations in Bangladesh. Authorities are expected to continue the investigation into the incident.
