Govt plans unified SSC and HSC question papers nationwide

Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has said the government is considering unified question papers for SSC and HSC exams nationwide. He shared the plan on March 14 in Dhaka. The discussion took place during an iftar meeting with education reporters at his official residence on Mintu Road.

He said the ministry is reviewing whether one common question paper can be used. This system could start from next year if preparations are completed.

The minister also announced strict measures to stop question leaks in the SSC exams. These examinations are scheduled to begin on April 21 across the country. He said authorities will enforce close monitoring at exam centres and surrounding areas. Officials from all education boards will soon meet to discuss security arrangements.

“Ensuring a cheating-free examination environment is a major challenge for me,” he said. He added that the government had managed such challenges before and expects similar success this year. He warned that anyone trying to leak questions using technology will face strict action.

Milon also said he plans to personally monitor exam security activities in the field. He stressed the need for strong coordination among all agencies involved.

Referring to global practices, he said many major competitive exams use a unified question system. He said Bangladesh could also move in that direction with proper planning. According to him, discussions are ongoing on how to introduce this method effectively.

The minister also spoke about administrative reforms inside the education ministry. He said he wants visible progress through a 180-day work programme. He described the ministry as a place of responsibility and public service.

He also expressed concern about delays in official work. He urged ministry staff to improve efficiency and avoid outdated practices. He said officials must focus on education development rather than personal interests.

Further meetings with education boards are expected before the SSC examinations begin next month.
