Students Now in Class Six to Sit Last Year’s Primary Scholarship Exam in April

Students now in Class Six must prepare again for the Class Five exam.

The government will hold last year’s Primary Scholarship Examination in April 2026, officials confirmed. The decision affects students across Bangladesh who completed Class Five in 2025. Many of those students are now studying in Class Six.

Education and Primary and Mass Education Adviser Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon announced the new plan recently. The exam was originally scheduled last year, but could not take place. A writ petition in court questioned the participation of kindergarten students. As a result, authorities postponed the examination.

The government has now decided to organise the suspended exam this April. In addition, Kindergarten students will also be allowed to participate. According to the adviser, about 80 percent of candidates will come from government primary schools. The remaining 20 percent will be from kindergarten institutions.

The announcement has created mixed reactions among students and guardians. Many students who were in Class Five last year are already in Class Six. They must now review old textbooks while continuing their current studies.

Some guardians worry this will increase academic pressure on young students. They say children must prepare for the scholarship exam and their Class Six lessons at the same time. Schools will also hold the first term examination for Class Six soon after the scholarship test.

Officials from the Directorate of Primary Education said the delay was unavoidable. A senior official noted that students will still have time to prepare. If the scholarship exam takes place in mid-April, students should get about one month before the first term exam.

Some guardians also see benefits in the decision. They say the scholarship exam will again allow a merit-based evaluation of primary students. The upcoming holiday for Eid al-Fitr may also provide extra study time.

Education authorities are expected to announce the detailed exam schedule and preparation guidelines soon.
