Twelve SSC examinees were mistakenly given old syllabus question papers during the Bangla Second Paper exam at a centre in Sharsha, Jessore, creating concern over their results and future.
The incident took place on Thursday at Bagachra Sammilito Girls School and College centre, in room number 206. According to officials, 23 regular candidates for the 2026 session were seated in the room. All attended the exam.
Among them, 11 students received the correct 2026 question paper. The remaining 12 examinees were given question papers based on the old 2025 syllabus. Students reportedly understood the mistake only after the exam had ended.
The matter was confirmed by Jessore Education Board Controller of Examinations Professor Dr. Abdul Matin.
He said the Bangla Second Paper exam was held peacefully across the board area, but negligence at one centre caused the problem for 12 students.
“As soon as I learned about it, I instructed the executive officer of the concerned upazila to form an investigation committee and send a report quickly,” he said. He added that action would be taken after the report is received.

Several guardians expressed anger and worry after learning of the mistake. They said students are now under stress because of an error they did not make.
They also called for a quick investigation and punishment for those responsible. Guardians said similar incidents must not happen in future public examinations.
Hall Superintendent Faruk Hossain said officials were also confused about how two different sets of question papers for the same subject entered the same room.
“There were no irregular examinees in room number 206. We will go to the Education Board regarding these 12 examinees,” he said.
Sharsha Upazila Secondary Education Office Academic Supervisor Nuruzzaman said no comment could be made before an official inquiry is completed.
The Bangla Second Paper exam involved 110,259 candidates under the Jessore Education Board, according to board data. Of them, 1,482 were absent.
Two examinees were expelled for cheating. One was from Bagerhat district and one from Meherpur district.
The number of absent candidates by district included 169 in Khulna, 93 in Bagerhat, 157 in Satkhira, 231 in Kushtia, 105 in Chuadanga, 75 in Meherpur, 291 in Jessore, 77 in Narail, 211 in Jhenaidah and 73 in Magura.
The case has drawn attention because SSC results can affect college admission and future study plans. Students and families are now waiting for the board’s decision on how the 12 affected examinees will be treated.
Officials said further steps will be decided after the inquiry report is submitted.
