NU Sets Tentative Date for Honours Admission Exam

    Honours Admission Exam Date 2026

The National University has set a tentative date for its upcoming undergraduate admission test for the 2025–2026 academic year. The Honours Admission Exam Date is likely to fall on April 25, according to university officials.

Vice-Chancellor Professor A.S.M. Amanullah shared the update on Friday (April 3) in a conversation with Time Barta. He said discussions are still ongoing and the final date will be confirmed through an official notice soon.

He also confirmed that the admission test will follow the same format as last year. Students will sit for a multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam for honours programmes across all affiliated colleges.

Data from the University Grants Commission (UGC) shows that many seats remain unfilled in recent years. According to the UGC’s 49th annual report based on 2022 data, there were 901,545 seats across undergraduate levels. Of these, 704,196 students enrolled, leaving 197,349 seats vacant.

At the honours and technical level alone, there were 436,090 seats. A total of 349,715 students enrolled, leaving 86,375 seats empty.

The previous year’s report shows an even higher number of vacant seats. In 2021, more than 396,000 seats remained unfilled across all undergraduate levels. At the honours level, nearly 200,000 seats were vacant.

The admission process has changed several times in recent years. Until the 2014–15 academic year, the university held admission tests. From 2015–16, it shifted to a GPA-based system using SSC and HSC results. However, the admission test system was reintroduced last year after a long gap.

Last year’s application process began on November 23 and ended on March 31 after several extensions.

Students and colleges are now waiting for the final announcement, which will confirm the exact schedule and guidelines for the upcoming admission test.
