Quality Education Must Be Restored: Education Minister

    Quality Education Must Be Restored

Education and Primary & Mass Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has said that restoring quality education is essential for Bangladesh. He made the remarks on Tuesday afternoon at a meeting in Bogura with heads of schools, colleges, and madrasas.

The meeting took place at a city hotel and was organised by the district administration. The minister said there is no alternative to improving education standards. He also noted that he is aware of how some institutions in Dhaka conduct examinations.

He said that during visits across the country, he often hears demands from teachers. However, he urged them to focus on real development alongside their demands. He added that the government is committed to ensuring quality education, and all stakeholders must work together to achieve this goal.

Referring to past plans, the minister said former prime minister Khaleda Zia had once aimed to develop Bogura as an education city. He noted that several initiatives were taken at that time.

The minister also announced plans to gradually introduce mid-day meals in primary schools. He said teacher training programmes will receive more attention in the coming years. While there is a commitment to allocate more national income to education, he admitted that effective use of funds remains a challenge.

On academic schedules, he pointed out delays in examinations for grades nine and ten. He said this causes a loss of valuable academic time and needs urgent action.

He also mentioned plans to introduce monitoring systems in institutions, including closed-circuit cameras. However, no decision will be taken now due to upcoming secondary examinations.

The ministry is expected to review these issues further after the examination period ends.
