The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) has finalized a roadmap for the training, evaluation, and appointment of more than 14,000 recommended assistant teachers for government primary schools in Bangladesh.

According to officials, the training module will be prepared in June. Training is expected to begin in July through the Primary Teachers’ Training Institutes (PTI). After completing the evaluation process, successful candidates may join in October.

Officials from the DPE’s Policy and Operations Division said 14,384 recommended assistant teachers will take part in the training programme. Only candidates who pass the final evaluation will receive appointment approval.

The duration of the training may be between two and three months. Officials said that if the programme ends within two months, joining could begin in September. If it continues for three months, appointments are likely to take place in October.

Farid Ahmed, Director General of the National Academy for Primary Education (NAPE), said the training module has already been prepared. He said the module will be submitted to the ministry after the Eid-ul-Azha holidays if a meeting is called. The ministry will then finalize the plan before training begins.

The recruitment process started earlier this year. On January 9, the written MCQ examination for assistant teacher recruitment was held in 61 districts across the country, excluding the three hill districts. A total of 69,265 candidates qualified for the viva voce examination.

After the oral tests, the final recruitment results were published on February 8. The authorities initially selected 14,384 candidates and also released district-wise lists of successful applicants.

Despite completing the written and oral examinations, the recommended candidates have not yet been able to join their posts. The delay created uncertainty among many candidates.

At the end of April, recommended candidates held protests in the capital over the delay in appointments. Following the demonstrations, the Education Minister said the candidates would be appointed after completing the required training.
