Educational Institutions to Reopen

Educational institutions across Bangladesh are set to reopen in phases after the extended Eid-ul-Adha and summer vacation that began in late May 2026.

According to the revised academic calendars published by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education and the Ministry of Education, primary schools, secondary schools, colleges and technical education institutions will resume classes on June 7 following a 16-day break. Madrasas will reopen a week later on June 14 after a total vacation of 23 days.

The holiday period began after classroom activities ended on May 21. Although the official vacation started on May 24, students effectively began their break after classes on May 21, as May 22 and 23 were the regular weekly holidays of Friday and Saturday.

The revised academic calendars show that institutions under the Primary, Secondary and Technical Education Boards will remain closed until June 4. This will be followed by the weekly holidays on June 5 and 6. Classes will then resume on Sunday, June 7.

As a result, teachers and students of primary, secondary, college and technical institutions will complete a continuous 16-day vacation, including weekly holidays.

Madrasa students are receiving the longest Eid-ul-Adha break this year. The vacation for Alia, Dakhil, Alim, Fazil and Kamil level madrasas began on May 24 and will continue until June 11. After the weekly holidays on June 12 and 13, classes will restart on Sunday, June 14.

This means madrasa teachers and students will enjoy a total of 23 days of leave, including weekly holidays.

While educational institutions remain closed, government offices are scheduled to resume normal operations on Monday, June 1, after a seven-day Eid holiday. Banks, insurance companies and the stock market will also reopen from the same day.

The reopening of schools, colleges and other institutions will mark a return to regular academic activities across the country after one of the longest holiday periods of the year.

According to the academic calendar, several public holidays remain scheduled in the coming months. Educational institutions will observe a holiday on July 29 for Ashadhi Purnima. Additional holidays are listed on August 5 for July Mass Uprising Day, August 12 for Akheri Chahar Shomba and August 26 for Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH). Holidays have also been scheduled in September for Shubho Janmashtami and Fateha-i-Yazdaham.
