Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has postponed several postgraduate examinations scheduled for March 9 to 11. The decision came on Monday (March 9, 2026), after the university canceled an earlier notice that allowed the exams to continue.
The change was announced in an urgent notice signed by BUET Registrar (Additional Charge) Professor Dr. N. M. Golam Zakaria. The notice said the step followed instructions from the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission.
The postponed exams are part of the postgraduate April 2025 semester final examinations. These tests were originally set for March 9, 10, and 11.
According to the new notice, the exams will now take place on March 28, 29, and 30. The university said a detailed schedule will be released later.
The decision cancels a previous notice issued on March 8. That earlier notice had stated that the exams would continue as planned despite the national university closure.
The government has ordered universities across the country to close from Monday, March 9. The measure aims to reduce electricity and fuel use during the ongoing war in the Middle East.
The closure also brought forward the Eid al-Fitr holiday period for universities.
BUET said office activities will continue from March 9 to March 16. During this time, postgraduate thesis defense examinations may still be held.
The university will publish further academic updates and the revised exam timetable in the coming days.
