The Bangladesh Ministry of Education has ordered all coaching centres across the country to close from Monday, March 9, until the government-declared Eid Ul Fitr holidays.
The directive was issued on Sunday by the Private Secondary-1 Branch of the Secondary and Higher Education Division. It applies to all coaching centres, including Bangla medium and English medium institutions.
The order also instructs English medium schools to suspend regular classes during the same period. However, schools that follow foreign curricula may continue only mandatory examinations according to their scheduled timetables.
Officials said the decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Education Minister. Representatives from schools operating under foreign curricula also attended the meeting.
According to the ministry, the move aims to reduce public inconvenience during the holy month of Ramadan. Authorities also considered the situation in Dhaka and other major cities, along with broader global conditions.
The directive has been sent to all education board chairmen, the Director General of Secondary and Higher Education, and deputy commissioners for implementation.
