All classes and examinations at Jahangirnagar University (JU) will remain closed from March 10 to March 26 for Ramadan and national holidays. With the weekly holidays on March 27 and 28, students will receive a total of 19 days off.
The decision was announced in a notice signed by Acting Registrar Dr A B M Azizur Rahman on Monday, March 2. The notice said the closure will apply to all departments and institutes. It will also cover regular, weekend, and evening academic programmes.
The break has been declared for the holy month of Ramadan, Shab-e-Qadr, Jumu’atul Wida, Eid-ul-Fitr, and the Great Independence and National Day.
Dr A B M Azizur Rahman said the university calendar had earlier scheduled the closure to begin on March 12. However, the date was brought forward after a request from the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union and several general students.
He said an administrative meeting was held after the request. At that meeting, authorities decided to start the holiday from March 10.

The decision means students will get 17 days of official closure. As March 27 and 28 fall on Friday and Saturday, which are weekly holidays, the total break will extend to 19 days.
University authorities are expected to resume classes and examinations after the scheduled holiday period ends.
