The high school equivalency and equivalent exams scheduled for Saturday, July 11, have been postponed in all districts under the jurisdiction of the Chattogram Board of Education due to the drastically worsening weather conditions and flooding in the region.
The decision was announced on Friday, July 10, in a statement signed by the board’s examinations officer, Professor Md. Parvez Sajjad Chowdhury. The Inter-Agency Education Coordination Committee also confirmed the postponement in a separate press release issued Friday afternoon.
Which Exams Are Postponed?
Saturday’s program included the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) exam (subject code 275), a compulsory subject for HSC candidates. The postponement affects all examination centers in the five districts under the jurisdiction of the Chattogram Board of Education: Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Khagrachhari, Rangamati, and Bandarban.
The decision is not limited to the general HSC exam. According to the official order signed by the Chairman of the Coordination Committee and Chairman of the Dhaka Board of Education, Professor Syed Aktaruzzaman, Saturday’s Alim exam, administered by the Madrasah Board of Education, along with the HSC (BMT), HSC (Vocational), and Diploma in Commerce exams, administered by the Technical Board of Education, will also remain suspended in these districts.
Exams in the other education boards across the country will be held on Saturday as scheduled.
Why the Exams Were Postponed
The statement explains that the decision was made following the severe deterioration of weather conditions in the region, compounded by flooding. The board had requested that the deputy commissioners of the five districts submit reports on the flood situation in their respective areas. Based on these reports and the recommendation of the Chattogram Board’s examination officer, the coordination committee decided to postpone the exam.
There is also a practical concern: due to power outages in many flood-affected areas, a large number of students may not see the online announcement. Therefore, the board has specifically instructed those in charge of all exam centers to broadcast the information in their locations via public address systems, ensuring that no student arrives at the center unaware of the postponement.
Second Postponement in the Same Week
This is the second time this week that Chattogram Board exams have been postponed. Previously, the HSC and equivalent exams scheduled for July 8, the date on which the second English exam was to be held, were also postponed across all districts under the board’s jurisdiction due to heavy rain and flooding.
A new date for any of the postponed exams has not yet been announced. The board has indicated that the revised schedule will be announced later. According to official sources, the postponed exams are likely to take place once the remaining exams on the schedule have been completed, which is standard practice in these situations.
What Should Candidates Do Now?
For the students of these five districts, the message is simple: your Saturday ICT exam is not happening — do not go to the exam center. Keep preparing for the next exams on the routine as usual, and keep an eye on official board notices for the rescheduled dates of the two postponed papers.
Given the flood situation, we also urge students and parents in the affected areas to prioritize their safety above all else.
We will publish the new dates for the postponed exams as soon as the board announces the revised schedule. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding HSC 2026 exams.
