Bangladesh will see long school and public holidays in February 2026 due to religious observance and the 13th National Election. Government decisions will give students, teachers, and employees several consecutive days off during the month.
According to official information, the holy Shab-e-Barat will be observed on the night of February 3. The Islamic Foundation confirmed the date. The government has declared a holiday by executive order on February 4, which falls on a Wednesday.
February 5 is a Thursday. The next two days, February 6 and 7, are the weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday. As a result, government employees can enjoy four consecutive days off by taking only one day of leave. Schools and colleges will also remain closed during this period.
Later in the month, the 13th National Parliamentary Election will be held on February 12. The government has declared general holidays on February 11 and February 12 for the election. February 13 and 14 are the regular weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday. This creates another four-day break.
Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Shafiqul Alam, said a general holiday has been declared on February 11 for the election. He also confirmed that February 12 will remain a general holiday, as announced earlier.
In addition, February 10 will be a general holiday for workers in industrial areas. This decision aims to ensure smooth participation in the election process.
These holidays mean schools will remain closed for several days in two separate phases in February. Teachers and students will get nearly one week of holidays when both breaks are combined. Many families are expected to use this time for rest, travel, or exam preparation.
The Ministry of Public Administration has already published the government holiday list for 2026. It shows 14 general holidays and 14 holidays declared by executive order during the year. Among them, nine fall on Fridays and Saturdays.
The list also includes optional religious holidays. Muslims will have five optional holidays. Hindus will have nine, Christians eight, Buddhists seven, and government employees from ethnic minority communities will have two.
Schools and offices are expected to follow the official holiday notices, with regular activities resuming after February 14, unless new instructions are issued.
