A continuous seven-day government holiday will begin in Bangladesh from Monday, 25 May, ahead of Eid-ul-Adha 2026. The holiday will continue until Saturday, 31 May, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on 14 May.
The government had earlier planned a six-day holiday around Eid-ul-Adha, which is expected to be observed on 28 May. Under the original schedule, 26 and 27 May were set as pre-Eid holidays, while 29 to 31 May were declared holidays by executive order.
Later, the cabinet decided to extend the break by one more day. On 7 May, the cabinet approved a proposal to declare 25 May a holiday to help ease Eid travel pressure. To adjust the schedule, government offices remained open on 23 and 24 May.
The Ministry of Public Administration later confirmed the revised seven-day holiday through an official notification.

The notification also said several essential services will remain outside the scope of the holiday. Workers involved in electricity, water, gas, fuel supply, fire service, cleaning operations, telephone and internet services, and postal services will continue their duties during the Eid period.
Employees connected to emergency state services and other urgent public work will also remain on duty, according to the ministry.
The government said special instructions have also been issued for several important sectors to ensure public services continue during the holiday period.
