The Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has issued urgent instructions for this year’s SSC and equivalent practical examinations, which are scheduled to begin on June 7 in Bangladesh.
The guidelines and subject-wise mark distributions were published on the board’s official website on Saturday, May 23. The board said the practical examinations will be conducted under the 2026 syllabus.
According to the instructions, separate guidelines and mark distributions have been prepared for each subject.
For Higher Mathematics (Subject Code: 126), the practical examination will carry 25 marks and last two hours. Students must complete two experiments. Marks will be awarded for planning, following procedures, drawing graphs, analysing data, and presenting results with explanations. A viva examination based on the syllabus and experiments will carry five marks.

The Physics practical examination (Subject Code: 136) will also carry 25 marks. Students must perform and explain one experiment selected through a lottery system in front of the teacher. Marks will be given for theory, equipment use, data tables, calculations, results, precautions, discussion, viva examination, and the practical notebook.
For Chemistry (Subject Code: 137), the practical exam will last two hours and carry 25 marks. One experiment will be assigned through a lottery system. Assessment will cover theory or principle, equipment arrangement, following procedures, data collection and processing, precautions, and presenting results with explanations. Students must present their practical notebook or sheet, although no separate marks will be awarded for it.
The Biology practical examination (Subject Code: 138) will carry 25 marks and last two hours. Students must answer one question selected through a lottery system from the listed experiments. The main experiment will include the experiment name, materials, procedure, diagrams, observations, conclusions, and precautions. Additional marks will be given for explaining results, the viva examination, and the practical notebook.
For Agricultural Education (Subject Code: 134), the practical examination will carry 25 marks and last two hours. One experiment will be assigned through a lottery system. Marks will be divided among the main experiment, practical notebook, and viva examination.
The board also issued separate instructions for Fine Arts and Crafts, Music, and Home Science.
Fine Arts and Crafts students must bring required drawing materials, including colours except watercolours, geometry boxes, scales, and pencils. Examination halls will provide practical answer sheets.
In Music, examiners will assess students based on melody, rhythm, tempo, pronunciation, and song lyrics.
Home Science students must bring the required materials mentioned in the question set, including items such as eggs, milk, sugar, brown paper, scales, measuring tape, and their practical notebook.
The Examination Controller’s Office said all practical examinations must be conducted with full transparency and according to regulations. Examiners have been requested to follow the board’s instructions strictly during the examination period.
