The moment thousands of families had been waiting for has arrived. The results of the Primary School Scholarship Examination were officially released today, Sunday, July 12, 2026, and a total of 79,246 students across the country received scholarships.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at noon at the International Mother Tongue Institute in Dhaka. Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Haque Milon, Minister of Education and Primary and Mass Education, formally announced the results. The Minister of State for Primary Education, Bobby Hajjaj, and the Director General of the Primary Education Directorate, Shahina Ferdousi, were also present at the event.
The Full Breakdown of This Year’s Scholarships
The winners fall into two categories — Talentpool and General grade — and here is how the numbers stand:
Talentpool scholarships: 32,965 students
- Government primary schools: 26,375
- Private schools and kindergartens: 6,590
General grade scholarships: 46,281 students
- Government primary schools: 36,420
- Private schools and kindergartens: 9,861
And here’s the highlight of this year’s results: girls have once again outnumbered boys. Of the 79,246 scholarship recipients, 43,354 are girls (54.71% of the total), while 35,892 are boys (45.29%). For parents of daughters across the country, this statistic alone is cause for celebration.
Why 79,246 and Not 82,500?
Regular readers will recall that the initial plan was to award 82,500 scholarships: 33,000 for outstanding students and 49,500 general scholarships, as outlined in the Primary School Scholarship Examination Policy. So why did only 79,246 students receive them?
The answer: 3,254 scholarships remained unfilled. According to the Ministry of Education, in some areas, no eligible candidates were found to fill certain quotas, so those scholarships simply weren’t awarded. The policy allocates scholarships by district and constituency, with separate quotas for public and private school students, and in some areas, there weren’t enough qualified applicants to fill all the available places.
How Big Was This Year’s Exam?
The scale of the exam explains why this result is so important to so many families. A total of 78,810 schools participated: 65,605 public primary schools and 13,205 private schools and kindergartens. Around 645,000 students registered for the exam, and approximately 420,000 of them ultimately took it. The exam was held nationwide in April.
In other words, roughly one in five test takers earned a scholarship—a truly competitive achievement for these young students.
How to Check Your Result Right Now
With the announcement done, results are being made available through the official channels:
Via SMS: Type DPE (space) Roll Number and send it to 16222. Example: DPE 123456. The reply message will carry the result.
Online: Go to the DPE’s official IPEMIS portal at ipemis.dpe.gov.bd, enter the roll number, select the exam year and upazila, and view the result. The result sheet can be downloaded as a PDF as well.
One important note before you panic: the DPE has said that uploading the complete results to the server may take two to three hours after the announcement. So if your child’s roll number doesn’t show up right away, it does not mean anything is wrong — wait a little while and try again, or use the SMS method.
A Result That Took the Long Road
The publication of these results was not without its challenges. Initially scheduled for Thursday, July 9, it was postponed at the last minute due to technical issues. That same morning, the results from nine districts were leaked to the server before their official release, an incident that led to the suspension of the responsible official and an internal investigation. Finally, the official results were published today.
To the 79,246 outstanding young students and their proud parents: congratulations! And to those who couldn’t participate this time: an exam at ten or eleven years old doesn’t define everything. Your academic journey is just beginning.
We will keep you informed of any updates, including details about scholarship payments and any review notifications from the Department of Education. Stay tuned for all the latest education news.
