Barely a day after the exams ended, Dhaka Central University has delivered the verdict. The results of the Science and Business Studies unit admission tests for the 2025–26 academic year were published on Saturday (July 18) night — and the numbers reveal just how unforgiving the competition was, with three out of every four Science unit candidates failing to reach the pass mark.
The university treasurer, Professor Dr. Borhan Uddin, confirmed the publication on Saturday evening. Shortly afterward, candidates were able to check their results through the university’s admissions website, logging in with their serial number and password.
The process was remarkably swift: the exams were held on a single day, Friday, July 17—the Science unit from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the Business Studies unit from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.—simultaneously at designated centers in the seven government colleges affiliated with the university.
The Numbers: A Brutal Cut
Science Unit: Of the 31,553 applicants, 24,304 candidates took the exam. Only 6,013 passed, while 18,290 failed, representing a failure rate of 75.26%. An additional 4,731 applicants did not appear, and one candidate’s exam was canceled.
Business Studies Unit: Of the 11,244 applicants, 9,716 took the exam. 3,208 passed and 6,507 failed, representing a failure rate of approximately 66.97%, with 826 absences and one canceled exam.
Remember the passing rules that resulted in these figures: candidates needed a minimum of 40 points on the multiple-choice exam to pass, in addition to at least 5 points in the designated subject to qualify for their desired department.
What the Fail Rates Actually Mean for Admission
This is the calculation every applicant should make tonight. The Faculty of Sciences has 4,795 places, and 6,013 candidates passed. This means that, even among those who passed, more than a thousand will be left out, and their position in the merit ranking will be decisive. In Business Studies, 3,208 passed for 1,997 places, creating a similar situation.
In other words: passing was the hardest part, but it’s not the ultimate goal. Merit ranking, grades per subject, and the preference list will now determine who gets into which department in each of the seven faculties.

How to Check Your Result
Candidates can check their results on the university’s admissions website (dcuadmission.com) by logging in with the serial number and password they used during the application process. The results show whether they passed or failed, as well as information about their academic merit. Keep a screenshot or a printed copy, as you will need this information throughout the admissions process.
With Friday’s tests, all three phases of DCU’s admissions process are now complete: the Arts and Social Sciences phase results were published on July 12, and the Science and Business Studies results complete the set. In total, the university will admit 11,290 first-year students across its seven affiliated public colleges.
What Happens Next
The next step for admitted applicants is choosing their courses and faculties, which is done through the admissions website according to the schedule announced by the university. Merit ranking, course grades, and preferences will determine the final allocation; therefore, admitted applicants should strategically plan their choices rather than simply copying those of their friends.
For the tens of thousands who didn’t make it: a 75% failure rate says more about the difficulty of an hour than about your ability. The admissions process isn’t over yet, and options remain open at universities across the country.
We will keep you updated on the course selection schedule, the admissions timeline, and all the latest news from DCU as the process unfolds. Congratulations to those admitted, and best of luck to everyone still vying for a place this season.
